Spinalonga Island Fortress
A small islet with a Venetian fortress built in 1579–1586, later an Ottoman trading hub and, from 1903, a colony for people with Hansen's disease. Boats take 5 minutes from Plaka or 10 minutes from Elounda; in winter it opens 8:30–15:30 and closes on Tuesdays.
