Dazaifu Tenmangu Usokae & Onisube Rituals

In the evening Usokae ritual, participants swap wooden bullfinch charms in the dark to trade last year's lies for good luck, and later the Onisube fire festival sees about 300 parishioners battle with smoke and flames to drive out a demon. Wooden charms are offered from the evening for a fee; watching the fire festival is possible from the grounds and roadside.
