Heijo-kyo Tenpyo Procession: Todai-ji Pilgrimage

A costumed Nara-period procession honoring Emperor Shomu, who ordered Todai-ji built, walks from JR Nara Station along Sanjo-dori and the Kasuga Taisha approach to Todai-ji, with guards, gagaku musicians and court nobles carrying replicas of Shosoin treasures. There is no event parking, so come by train or bus; it is cancelled in stormy weather.
