Rent a rowing boat on the big lake below the Alfonso XII monument, then walk to the 1887 Crystal Palace, now used for Reina Sofía exhibitions. Entry is free; the park is part of the UNESCO-listed Paseo del Prado and Buen Retiro 'Landscape of Light' and opens 6 am to 10 pm in autumn and winter.
