Madonna del Sasso Sanctuary

Consecrated in 1487, this ochre sanctuary on a wooded crag in Orselina is the best-known pilgrimage site in Italian-speaking Switzerland, with views over the palms to Lake Maggiore. Walk up the ravine of the Torrente Ramogno in about 20 minutes, or take the half-hourly funicular from near Locarno station.
