Dürnstein Castle Ruin

Built by the Kuenring family around 1140 and blown up in 1645, this hilltop ruin is where Richard the Lionheart was held captive in 1192–1193. A trail climbs from the village to wide views over the Danube valley, and a model of the castle is on show at Dürnstein Abbey.
