Huka Falls

The Waikato River is forced through a hard-rock channel only 15 m wide and bursts out as Huka Falls, with nearly a quarter of a million litres of water per second, five minutes' drive north of Taupō. A wheelchair-accessible 10-minute lookout walk starts across the footbridge; the car park is locked from 5:30pm to 8:30am, with a $30 release fee.
