Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland

Walk at your own pace on well-defined tracks through what is considered New Zealand's most colourful geothermal attraction, 27 km (about 20 minutes' drive) south of Rotorua, finishing at the country's largest mud pool. Lady Knox Geyser is presented daily at 10:15am (arrive by 9:45am); the park opens 8:30am–4:30pm, last admission 3pm, and is cashless.
