Monreale Cathedral

Begun in 1174 under William II and UNESCO-listed, the cathedral holds Italy's most extensive mosaic decoration, over 6,000 m² of gold-ground tesserae, dominated by Christ Pantocrator. Open daily with a midday break; on Sundays it opens in the afternoon only.
