The walled heart of the UNESCO-listed Hue Citadel, where Nguyen emperors ruled: enter through the Noon Gate to tree-lined avenues, palaces, courtyards, canals and old bridges. Allow about two hours and consider a guide; in the late afternoon the square in front of the Noon Gate fills with kite flyers and the gate lights up at dusk.
