Good to knowHa Long Bay is about 2.5 hours from Hanoi by expressway and Ninh Binh about 2 hours, so both work as day trips, though overnight cruises are popular in the bay. Sapa is around 6 hours by limousine bus. The mountains get cold in winter (roughly December to February), and summer brings heavy rain and the chance of storms at sea.
