Things to do in Siem Reap & Angkor

Siem Reap is the gateway to Angkor: watch sunrise at Angkor Wat, see the serene smiling stone faces of Bayon at the heart of Angkor Thom, explore tree-grown Ta Prohm and Preah Khan and the fine carvings of Banteay Srei, and catch sunset at Phnom Bakheng or Pre Rup. Further out are Beng Mealea, Kbal Spean's River of 1,000 Lingas and the World Heritage site of Koh Ker. In and around town, visit the Angkor National Museum, Phare, The Cambodian Circus and Artisans Angkor, take a countryside cooking class, ride a boat onto Tonlé Sap from Chong Kneas, and spend the evening on Pub Street.

Good to knowThe main temples need an Angkor Pass from the official Angkor Enterprise, while Beng Mealea, Kbal Spean and Koh Ker each need their own ticket; some areas of Beng Mealea are hard to walk, so a guide is recommended. Angkor Wat opens early for sunrise, and under-12s may not climb its upper tower. Tonlé Sap boat tickets at Chong Kneas are sold per boat at the Angkor Enterprise counter, not online.
